Folk songs and dance tunes
The best traditional songs and dance tunes from New Zealand and around the world. Folk music you can’t help but sing along with.

What is Gráinneog
Gráinneog means ‘Hedgehog’ in Gaelic.
On Waiheke Island, where the band is based, the spiky little critters are everywhere after dark and we felt that their general charm and character was worth celebrating.

About Us
The band formed in 2017 when three folk singers were asked to play the St Patrick’s Day festivities at the local Irish pub. The show went down well enough that they decided to begin practising on a regular basis. The prickly name was chosen and the real fun began.
The band was formed around some basic rules. We’d play traditional music from around the English speaking world, avoid amplification wherever possible, not take ourselves TOO seriously and, most importantly, this would be a band where everyone sings.
Our repertoire is, quite frankly, vast. We play songs and dance tunes from all over the British Isles, Canada, USA, Australia and, of course, Aotearoa.
Gráinneog is a Waiheke Island based, Auckland folk band for hire. If you are looking for some entertainment on Waiheke or a ceilidh band for your Waiheke wedding, get in touch!
You can often catch Gráinneog at Irish pubs on Waiheke Island, Great Barrier Island and Auckland. The band is available to hire for Waiheke weddings, parties and general entertainment.
